Article Types
SAPS accepts a variety of article types that make meaningful contributions to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences. Each submission must meet the journal’s scientific, ethical, and formatting standards and will undergo a rigorous peer review process.
The following article categories are accepted:
1. Original Research Articles
2. Review Articles
3. Short Communications
4. Case Reports (with Pharmaceutical Relevance)
5. Opinion Articles / Perspectives
Original Research Articles
Comprehensive reports of novel and methodologically sound scientific investigations that make a substantial contribution to the fields of pharmaceutical sciences, including but not limited to pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical analysis, drug delivery, and biotechnology.
Key Requirements:
• Must include original data generated by the authors.
• Clearly defined objectives, methodology, results, and a discussion of findings.
• Ethical approvals must be obtained and documented, where applicable.
• Word limit: ~5000–8000 words (excluding references and supplementary material).
• Structured Abstract (300 words max) and 4–6 keywords.
• References: typically up to 50.
Review Articles
Comprehensive, authoritative, and balanced overviews of specific topics in pharmaceutical sciences that consolidate existing knowledge, identify gaps, and offer future research directions.
Types of Reviews
• Narrative reviews
• Systematic reviews (with or without meta-analysis)
• Scoping reviews
Key Requirements:
• Should be written by experts with demonstrable experience in the topic area.
• Must be critical, not merely descriptive.
• All sources must be cited appropriately and accurately.
• Preferred word limit: ~5,000–8,000 words (excluding references).
• Unstructured Abstract (up to 250 words) and keywords.
• References: up to 100 or more as justified.
Short Communications
Brief, yet significant reports of original research findings that are urgent, preliminary, or of specialized interest.
Articles suitable for reporting:
• Pilot or feasibility studies
• New methods or technical advances
• Early-stage drug discovery results
Key Requirements:
• Concise format with essential data only.
• Preferred word limit: ~2000–2500 words.
• Structured Abstract (max 150–200 words) and up to 4 keywords.
• Max 2–3 figures/tables.
• References: typically up to 25.
Case Reports (with Pharmaceutical Relevance)
Detailed reports of unique, rare, or instructive clinical cases involving pharmaceutical intervention, adverse drug reactions, novel formulations, or therapeutic challenges that provide practical learning for pharmacy professionals and researchers.
Key Requirements:
• Must include informed patient consent and ethical approval.
• Should contain relevant images, lab findings, and pharmaceutical context.
• Word limit: ~1500–2500 words.
• Unstructured Abstract (max 150 words).
• References: typically up to 15–20.
Note: Purely clinical case reports with no pharmaceutical or pharmacotherapeutic relevance are outside the scope of SAPS.
Opinion Articles / Perspectives
Thought-provoking, well-argued commentaries or expert opinions on recent developments, challenges, or controversies in pharmaceutical sciences, public health policy, or pharmaceutical education.
Key Requirements:
• Should reflect the author’s academic or professional viewpoint backed by scientific reasoning or published literature.
• May include future directions, ethical perspectives, or regulatory viewpoints.
• Word limit: ~1200–2000 words.
• No abstract required, but a brief summary paragraph may be included.
• References: limited to 10–15.
Submissions Not Considered
• Editorials (unless invited)
• Letters to the Editor (under review for future inclusion)
• Non-peer-reviewed advertisements or sponsored content
• Articles not related to pharmaceutical sciences
All submissions must clearly indicate the article type at the time of submission. The editorial office reserves the right to reclassify the article type during the editorial process if appropriate.
